Question: Why does lenny have a preoccupation with small furry animals?

Throughout the story, we can see that Lenny likes small animals, especially furry ones. What we don't know is why he likes them. I think that lenny likes small animals because they relate to him. Small animals are like him, or more so relate to his fragile mind. Lenny is mentally unable to think like we do, and has the mind of a small child. Children often like things that are soft, because they're testing their senses. Lenny likes small furry animals for that reason, and it also might remind him of when he was a child.

Beyond the Line

Question: Why doesn't curly's wife have a name?

In case you didn't notice, curly's wife doesn't have her own name. It's just....curly's wife. Throughout the book, all you really notice about her is that she's always looking for Curly.

The men in the book are also very demeening towards her, calling her 'loose' and a 'tart'.
It doesn't sound like they respect her at all. Maybe, marrying Curly was the only thing she really had going for her. Back in the 1920's, women had little rights. They couldn't hold jobs, vote, or do anything they do today.

Curly's wife asserted little independance for herself. It always seemed like she was just the Trophy Wife for curly, and didn't have a life of her own. I don't agree with the guys in the book who said she was loose ir a tart, because honestly, what could she have done? It doesn't seem like there was much going for her besides marrying curly and maybe starting a family.
